Irene L. Sutton, 97, of Windsor Place, Hockessin, passed away on May 7, 2010.
Born and raised in Lewiston, ME, she was the daughter of the late: Michael and Laura Marcoux Linehan. She attended Bates College, where she met and married Gilbert Sutton of Wilmington. Gil spent 30 years with DuPont. She was a longtime member of the DuPont Country Club, enjoying social activities, such as bridge and golf, particularly the Ladies 9 Hole group. She attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for many years, helping with the church outreach effort was a pleasant memory.
She cherished her role as wife and mother to her two sons: she is predeceased by her husband, Gil Sutton and younger son, Laurence Sutton; she is survived by son, Carlton Sutton and his wife Caroline.
Other surviving family members are brother, John F. Linehan; grandchildren: Jocelyn Stewart and husband Jim, Karen Lexow, Stephanie Gabriels and husband Ed; great grandchildren: Mary Chase and Remy Stewart and Sylvie Lexow. She was also predeceased by sisters Doris Laverdier and Louise McKillop.
Irene lived her life in a manner that was an inspiration to her family. She enthusiastically embraced all the gifts that life offered and faced adversity with courage and grace. Throughout Irene’s life, her family was always her primary focus and source of joy.
Services will be private.
