Doris M. Murphy Johnson, 88, of Grants Pass died Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at her daughter’s home in Myrtle Creek.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday at the IOOF/Eastwood Cemetery in Medford, with Pastor Phil Anderson officiating. Chapel of the Valley – L.B. Hall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.chapel-valley.com.
The youngest of five children, she was born July 10, 1922 in Star, Idaho to Eugene and Lura Gray. When she was five years old, her family moved to Grants Pass, and she attended the old Murphy School. In April 1946 in Carson City, Nev., she married Earl King Murphy, who died August 14, 1982. On May 27, 1992, she married William Lester Johnson, who died December 18, 2009.
When she was a young woman, Doris worked on the family dairy, as a waitress and as a cashier. From 1962 to 1972, she was a tax preparer
Doris enjoyed raising birds and organizing family get-togethers and pizza parties for her grandchildren. She helped with senior dinners at the meal site in Williams.
Survivors include her daughter, Colleen Harp of Myrtle Creek; three sons, Bert Murphy of Keizer, Ore., Ivan Murphy of Klamath Falls and Livy Murphy of Grants Pass; her step-son David Johnson of Dayton, Ore. and her step-daughter, Jane Stevens of Stayton; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. A step-daughter, Judy Zafforoni, died before her.
