Obituary

Arthur George Gosselin, Jr, 90, passed away early Saturday morning surrounded in his final days by the love and laughter of his family and the wonderful care of the Villa Crest Nursing staff in Manchester, NH. He was born in Manchester on June 13th, 1927, the only son of six children to Arthur George Gosselin and Anna Rivard Gosselin.

Arthur attended Manchester schools and participated in athletics before enlisting in the U.S. Navy just two days prior to his 18th birthday. During his deployment, Arthur served as a "Seabee" on the island of Saipan running water and electrical lines and repairing facilities and airfields that were integral in allowing long range bombers to reach Japan at the end of WWII.

Upon his return from service, Arthur resumed his studies and graduated from Manchester High School Central in 1948. He then worked for his father at Gosselin Restaurant Supply on Elm Street and it was there that Arthur spotted the woman who was to become the love of his life, Denise Duval. They married after a three month courtship, on September 17th, 1955 and had three children in each of the three successive years.

With the help of family, Arthur used his wide array of electrical and carpentry skills to build his family a home on the Merrimack River, and for the next 40 years, he filled it with the things he cherished most- the company and laughter of his large extended family and the sights and sounds of his beloved New England sports teams.

Arthur retired from the New Boston Air Force Tracking Station after 25 years of employment. He spent his retirement hosting holidays and get togethers, supporting his nine grandchildren in their various athletic, theatrical and academic pursuits, and making a fantastic meat pie. He later relocated to Hooksett and socialized with many friends, including the Hooksettites and his caring "Visiting Angels" companion, Moe.

Arthur was predeceased by his sisters, Doris Riley and Margo Lacaillade, and by his wife, Denise, in 2002- after providing her with eleven years of compassionate care during her battle with Parkinsons.

He is survived by his sons, Arthur Gosselin, III, and his wife Colleen, of Candia; his daughter, Camille Brown, and her husband Barry, of Nashua; his son, Peter Gosselin, and his wife Nancy, of Hooksett; his grandchildren, Christie, Stephanie, Danielle, Emily, Nicole, Angela, Alex, Olivia, and Rebecca; his great-granddaughter, Emerson; his sisters, Lorraine Peterson, Beatrice Horian, and Jacqueline Cullerot; and a great many nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters-in-law.

All are warmly invited to calling hours on Wednesday, September 6th, 2017 from 4pm-7pm at Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover St, Manchester, NH. The funeral service will be held at 10am on Thursday, September 7th, 2017 at St Catherine of Siena Parish, 207 Hemlock St, Manchester, NH. Burial with military honors will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 474 Goffstown Road, Manchester, NH.
